Though I've scanned through a ton of the posts on a number of web sites, I haven't found exactly what I need to know, and additionally, I have a prehistoric laptop that takes a few minutes between clicks, so it's a bit maddening. Here is the situation: I'm a grad student at the UDLA in Puebla, and since I want to teach here somewhere along the line in my two years here, I don't want to get a student FM3 because I'm told one can't change it to a working one very easily. So now I'm flying home at Christmas and I want to drive back down here with my paid-for '97 Honda Civic around the beginning of January. Now I intend to fill it with stuff I want here like my old 19" TV, microwave, toaster oven, VCR, my printer, a guitar and a lot of old clothes. Now obviously I don't have any receipts for any of these old things, and I've heard one needs them (God, I hope that's not true). Some questions would be, should I be able to pass through easily or should I expect to pay something, and if so, how much? Also, do you recommend a particular border crossing point and time of day? What worries me is the idea of entering with a car-full of stuff and telling them I'm a tourist -is that wise? And should I not tell them that I'm a student at UDLA? The difficuly in getting this info has been daunting. Anyway, let me know if you can help me with these questions.
